Which switchboard work do I need?
A circuit-protection upgrade, a full switchboard replacement and a consumer mains upgrade cover different work. We assess your installation and explain the scope before you approve a quote.
Replacing circuit breakers with RCBOs
An RCBO combines safety-switch protection with circuit-breaker protection in one device. A basic swap keeps a suitable existing enclosure and replaces the agreed circuit breakers. Our offer starts from $990 incl. GST for up to 6 existing circuit breakers; additional circuits, wiring repairs, enclosure replacement and mains or meter work are quoted separately.
Old ceramic fuses or a full switchboard replacement
Replacing ceramic fuses may involve more work than swapping modern circuit breakers. We check the board, wiring and available space. A full replacement may include a new enclosure or mounting panel, circuit protection, testing and labelling. Your quote specifies what is included; this is separate from the basic RCBO-swap offer.
Wooden boards and suspected asbestos panels
Older timber mounting arrangements or deteriorated enclosures need an assessment of their condition and suitability. Some older electrical and meter panels contain asbestos. If it is suspected, the assessment and any specialist handling or removal requirements must be established before work is planned. Do not disturb the panel. Any additional work is identified in the quote.
Consumer mains: protection, capacity and upgrades
Consumer mains are the cables supplying your switchboard from the point of supply. New circuit breakers do not increase the capacity of those cables. Depending on their condition, size and installation, suitable protection may limit the available supply—sometimes described as derating—or a cable upgrade may be needed for your planned load. We assess this separately, including any network or metering coordination required.
